When you do the Mad Hatter thingy in Hot Press it's over the phone, I always thought people spent ages deliberating over their answers but it's just a chat that is recorded. On the evening I gave my answers we had a bad line so this led to some unusual answers being printed. Lots of people have been asking me so for the record...

This was supposed to be a prank call to a new talk show but turned out to be the start of my professional radio career. Greg Merriman was doing a talkshow at 1am and I rang in, but something happened to Greg, he laughed so much that people started ringing asking for Tony to ring back in. That led to Tony becoming a regular character and then joining Greg once a week in studio. Next thing I knew I had a job in legal radio and had to quit my DLR gigs. I went on to work with Adrian Kennedy and a fella called Colm Hayes. Can't believe this was TEN YEARS ago...... Thanks Greg!

These calls have been sitting in a drawer for years, Rick O'Shea has demanded they be released to the public. This one is to Adrian Kennedy in 1997. The odd thing is I went on to work for Adrian on this show a few years later and ended up filling-in as presenter. Every night I did the show I would be on high alert for messers like myself ringing in. It was a big relief when I admitted to Adrian that I used to torment him and he thought it was a laugh.

Schoolboy humour from me as a schoolboy. It's not big, it's not clever.... but man did we think it was funny in 1989! Adrian would go on to hear much worse language than this on his talk show but in 1989 it was a shocker. You can see now why the tape of these calls that was passed around school was called 'The Bollix & Click Collection'. Sorry about the language Adrian!

Early 90's Prank Call to Mark Cagney's radio talkshow.

Another bit of messing from my mis-spent youth. The idea here was to get on to Mark Cagney's radio talkshow and talk jazz. I told the producer I was fuming with the CIE rail strike and they put me on-air straight away. I thought the whole March/February thing would get me cut off fairly quickly but Mark tries to make sense of the nonsense I was saying! Crazy Bracken. Sorry Mark!

My Father Michael Cleary Prank Call - 1989

It's been a while since I posted anything here, so I'll try harder. This is me in 1989 doing a prank call to the late great Father Michael Cleary's radio show. I used to do a lot of these and pass them around school during geography class. It was known as 'The Bollix & Click Collection", mainly because many calls involved me saying "bollix" and then hanging up. (I was young, but that word still is funny!)

This one has a bit more thought put into it and is the one people ask me about the most. Father Michael had his own late night talk show that was very famous in Dublin in the late 80's/early 90's.

I've lots more that I must dig up if you're interested.
